No, not those cute fuzzy things that eat your homework and your teacher doesn’t believe you even after doing a show and tell on your pet goats, but now I am off topic. What I am talking about is my 2006 Pontiac GTO. So after having the car almost a year and putting 20k miles on it and still not finished my review, small issues have started to pop up. Most of it trim related and such, but one that has me baffled is my clutch issue. So I had the car in the air cause I was doing an oil change and days previously I had noticed a smell that seemed like hot oil, but slightly different. I have decided that, after cleaning the underside of my car and adding dye to the oil, it is clutch fluid leaking out somewhere from the slave cylinder because the fluid seems to be coming from a small slit in the bell housing. The weird thing is that when I hit it hard in first gear and go to grab second, the clutch pedal has lost feeling and will engage and disengage only in the last few inches of pedal travel. My boss who also owns a GTO suggested I start with a fluid flush before I have them remove the trans, cause that would be way too expensive. What do you all think? Thanks

May the burnout gods grant you glorious clouds!

Look up “T56 drill mod”, see if that applies to you.

Edit: Although if you are actually leaking clutch fluid, you need to repair it and assess the hydraulic issue later (if it still exists)

It sounds like you have oil on your clutch possibly making it slip. Is the fluid reservoir down? What about the transmission fluid (gear oil?)? One of them must be low. If not, it could be leaking from the rear main seal.

Point of information: goat meat is delicious. Grilled with salt and pepper = heaven to my taste buds

From the sounds of it they are having shifting issues. I am having clutch issues, but it shifts great....

I will have to try this

Yeah, I re-read your post and edited mine. It sounds like you have a leaky hydraulic system. If you can upgrade to a Tick master this is a good time to do so. Bleeding the clutch lines can be a bit of a PITA.

I put dye in the oil and the fluid under the car was not luminescent. It is yellow fluid, so it can’t be trans fluid because the T56 uses Dex 3 which is red (atf) and I am pretty sure there isn’t gear oil in this trans. Clutch fluid seemed to be my only other option.

doing a show and tell on your pet goats...

I did literally this waaaay back in the 2nd grade. It peed on the floor. Hilarious.

I also brought in a honey separator once, but left the bees back at the farm.

You sure it’s not motor oil?

Is the slave in the bellhousing or external on the T56?

Eh, is it worth it? I am trying not to spend money on more parts that I don’t necessarily need at the moment.

Well the black light didn’t light up the fluid and I don’t have an issue with oil fluid loss.

It’s a nice upgrade, but if you don’t have the money then I would just fix what’s broken.

Are you sure it’s leaking?

Probably smart on leaving the bees behind....

No, that’s the problem. I can’t see in the bell housing to see the leak...

Hmm, TIL. That’s what I get for working on German shit. VW uses internal slave cylinders on some transaxles, but everything else I can think of is external.

Unfortunately, if the slave is leaking, a flush isn’t going to change anything.

Is the fluid level in the master down at all?

Does the LS2 have rear mail seal troubles? If oil got on the clutch assembly it would act strange.

I have had to put fluid in the master before, which is why I thought it might be leaking, but I haven’t checked in ages... I should do that.

And no, LS2s have no fluid leak issues

I know.... The flush was to check out that weird clutch feel issue.

Yeah, sorry about the million questions but dropping the trans and opening the hydraulic system when it’s unnecessary is not a fun time.

I wonder if maybe you can pump the clutch and make it puke fluid? Or if you can borrow a mityvac to pressurize the line via the master and see if anything comes out, if it holds a few PSI, etc.

Hmm, that is a really good idea. Yeah I really don’t want to spend the money on labor, that isn’t necessary.

You will not be disappoint. It’s also great in stew.

If you’re gonna grill, I highly advise eating with fried plaintains (sweet or not sweet)
